Growing up in Albania in a family deeply rooted in the art of crafts, designer Elsa Nilaj [nilay] was immersed in a world of creativity from a very young age. She watched her mother meticulously practicing various types of traditional artistry, such as cross stitch embroidery, which both inspired and taught the designer her unique skills. Drawing inspiration from these cherished memories, Elsa embarked on a journey to reimagine this magnificent craft for a contemporary audience, both honoring its rich heritage while captivating the hearts of the modern generation worldwide.
To carry forward this tradition in a new and innovative way, Elsa sought out elegant and lightweight materials that would lend themselves beautifully to cross-stitch embroidery and opted for a striking black canvas, which infuses a sense of sophistication and timelessness into her designs. Each motif is meticulously crafted, embellished with delicate beads to add a touch of refinement and contemporaneity to different types of fabrics. By utilizing sheer and lightweight textiles such as georgette, chiffon, and various types of net, Elsa has been able to translate her vision into an exquisite couture collection that resonates with elegance and grace.
Her designs are a blend of modern sensibility with traditional craftsmanship, breathing new life into a heritage often overlooked in today's fast fashion world. Elsa Nilaj
Designer Elsa Nilaj, an Albanian by origin, began her journey in fashion at an early age, deeply influenced by a family immersed in the arts and a creative environment rich with music. Her early exposure to traditional crafts laid the groundwork for what would become a distinguished career in fashion.
Over the years, she has garnered numerous awards and recognitions, both within Albania and internationally. She has dressed music icons and many well-known figures, including famed celebrities Sunidhi Chauhan, Saurabh Shukla, Parth Samthan, and Divya Agarrwal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Saurabh Shukla, Parth Samthan, and Divya Agarrwal.
Outside of her own label, Elsa holds the title of Course Lead Fashion Design at FAD Institute of Luxury Fashion & Design. FAD fashion institute is known for incubating and training emerging talent across India & Middle East with campuses in Mumbai, Pune & Dubai. FAD has been instrumental in propelling several iconic initiatives across India, Middle East & Europe with an objective of supporting regional talents and building a sustainable ecosystem for creative talents across the world.
